When I go to boot from disc using Ubuntu Linux, it gives me an error and in that sentence it says something about NTDLR or something like that [I can't remember... I have a bad memory]. What is the best way to do this? I downloaded that from a website and put it on a CD.
How can I get Linux to work on my computer?
Ok, so you downloaded this version of Ubuntu, you burned it to a CD and now you're trying to boot from the CD, is that correct? Did you make the CD bootable? I'm guessing you didn't. The easiest solution to your problem is order the free CDs from their website: http://www.ubuntu.com/.
Cheers.
Reply:Go to my PC tutorials site and look at the Linux tutorial there. It's a program called Knoppix. The tutorial covers downloading, burning an ISO and booting from the CD. A great program and free,

Reply:My guess is that you are somehow trying to start Windoze and getting an error about how somewhere there is somehow information about something like NTLDR is not found - the NT Loader is related to Windoze booting. You need to get friendly with a pencil and paper - it makes up for poor memories.
Boot from the CD, not the harddisk. You will get a very different set of prompts.
Reply:You'll have to be a little more explicit about the error message. It sounds like it's not finding a boot loader. Did you set your computer's BIOS to allow it to boot off the CD? And when you created the CD was it created as a bootable CD?
Reply:Hi, first of all when u downloaded Ubuntu from the website did u check ur iso's check sums. Then after burning it to the cd u should have verified the cd's checksum. This is important so that u have a complete cd without any corruptions in ur data. Now set ur bios up to boot from cd rom first. When booting from it there should be an option to do a memory test. This tests ur ram for defects. Once that is done choose the option start or install Ubuntu. You will then be running in Live mode and there should be a setup option available for u there.
Good Luck!
