Have you converted to Linux and what was the catalyst for making you take the decision?

For me it was the disappointment of Vista when it was first released. Although Vista has now improved Linux as far as I am concerned remains superior. Had I have been aware of the wonders of Ubuntu I would never have bought Vista.

What made you start using Linux.

Have you converted to Linux and what was the catalyst for making you take the decision?
I just became kinda interested in it. My ex-sister-in-law gave me her old iPod, so I googled "iPod Hacks." One of the results was iPod Linux, a Linux distro that installs on an iPod so I decided to try it out. That got me pretty interested in it, so I started looking at other distros. I had a pretty crappy PC at the time, so I was limited to Damn Small Linux. Then I got a better PC that came with Vista and my cat, Charlie, put a gun to my head and forced me to install Ubuntu :-P I'm glad she did, because I've been using it ever since
Reply:I surf porn all the time as such they eat my boxes up with viruses, and the likes. now with linux it hasnt touched me in nearly a year. a windows xp box would be lucky to last a week this linux is nearly invincable
Reply:I am a programmer and linux gave me the freedom and control I was looking for.

Also it does not hurt that you no longer have to worry about viruses and spyware.

Linux is great to put on old pc's as well. Saves them from the scrap heap. It is a Green OS.
Reply:Hi, started using Linux when I saw the beryl eye candy effects, that got me interested in the Unix operating system and I have been using Linux since then.
Reply:Just wanted to experiment something with my PC during holidays. Killed the time trying to triple boot, then settled down for an xp/edubuntu dual boot. But I rarely boot into windows now.
Reply:the catalyst microsoft over priced over rated and over here, to sum it up, been running linux for over one year no virus no spyware, and no trojans.
Reply:HAd a few old PCs that need an OS and liked Linux. It was nice to have the LIVE distros to try before committing to HDD install. I also got tired of paying for software or trying to find hacks n cracks to get stuff free for Windoze OS. Still use MS for gaming as few choices in the linux world.
