How can I completely remove windows and install linux on my HP laptop pavillion 6000?
When you're going through the installation process for Linux, it'll most likely give you the option of formatting the drive you're installing Linux to (wiping Windows out in the process — hope you're going to back up anything important first) or merely dividing the drive into smaller partitions. Aside from backups, there isn't really anything you need to do in Windows to "prepare" it.
Reply:Fdisk it. But you are far better of to partition the drive to run both. It basically makes your pc think it has two hard drives. Windows is still useful for some things so it is good to keep it around. The easiest way is to by a removable hard drive. $80 will get you a 100+ GB drive and Linux can run off that.
